emilyMy name is Emily Keena, and as one of the newest members of the Hospitality House of Tulsa, I’d like to introduce myself.  I grew up in Siloam Springs, AR before moving throughout the country and landing in Montana.  It was there I earned a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from Montana State University and even more importantly solidified my passion and joy for serving Christ.  Family, friends and warmer weather drew me to Tulsa about two years ago, and I can’t tell you how happy I am to be here.  Since being in Tulsa I have had the opportunity to work for local nonprofits, a university and for one day as a hospital housekeeper.  Looking for professional development was a great goal, but I wanted to work somewhere that I could grow personally and spiritually, too.

When I came across the mission statement for Hospitality House of Tulsa, I knew immediately that is where I wanted to be.  “We offer a ‘home away from home’ for families caring for loved ones in medical crisis.”  Not even two weeks before I heard of HHT, I was provided an opportunity to open my own home to someone in need of a place to stay while her child was in a nearby hospital.  The Lord had given me a small taste of what I was eventually going to be doing as a job.  So when I heard that HHT was hiring, I immediately sent in my resume.

As the Hotel Extension Program Coordinator, I get the privilege of working alongside the DoubleTree Hotel at Warren Place to provide lodging and support to families who have loved ones in medical care at Saint Francis Hospital.  In the short time I have worked with HHT, I have met guests from all walks of life.  People hailing from Massachusetts, Kansas, Florida and basically every corner of Oklahoma have sat with me and talked through their stories.  This organization is more than just offering a place for caretakers to get some rest; it is providing opportunities to see how great God is.  He brought me from Montana to talk to a New Yorker taking care of their family member from Coweta, OK.  One this is sure, I am beyond blessed to have become connected with Hospitality House of Tulsa.
